Life Cycle Costing
An important component of Cost Engineering is the cooperation of cross-functional teams (across departments and locations) through all development phases. Thus, Cost Engineering creates transparency in regard to manufacturing costs already in the product development process. Target costs can be viewed holistically and are thus included effectively in Cost Calculation.

The goal of Design for Manufacturing (DFM) is to focus, as early as the development phase of a product, on subsequent production and manufacturing. Thus, a product can later be manufactured and assembled inexpensively, efficiently and ergonomically. The overall cost of the product can be significantly influenced and reduced by the early influence of DFM during the development phase.
